Expressing “As Much As” in Arabic
The phrase “as much as” means “to the same degree as” or “in equal measure to.” In Arabic, this concept is expressed using the prepositional phrases بِقَدْرِ ما or بِقَدْرِ, which are generally followed by a verb (in either the past or present tense) or by a noun.
Examples:
1. إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْخُذُ بِقَدْرِ مَا يُعْطِي
God takes as much as He gives.
2. أَكْرَهُكَ بِقَدْرِ مَا أُحِبُّكَ
I hate you as much as I love you.
Using “As Many As” for Countable Nouns
When referring to countable nouns, the phrase بِقَدْرِ can be translated as “as many … as.”
Example:
هُنَاكَ إِيجَابِيَّاتٌ بِقَدْرِ السَّلْبِيَّاتِ
There are as many positives as negatives.
